This year the Habs Jazz Summer School will run two courses split by age group.
A junior course (ages 10-14) will run from 20th - 24th August, and the senior course (ages 15-18) will run from the 27th-31st August.
The senior course will culminate in an external afternoon concert held at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho on Sunday 2nd September.
The application deadline is Friday 20th April.
The first set of auditions will be held in the week commencing 5th March, for later applications, there will be another week of auditions in the week commencing 23rd April.
After a hugely successful first year, the Habs Jazz Summer School is back and is excited to bring you two courses. To accommodate growing demand we have split into a junior and a senior course which will run in consecutive weeks at the end of the summer holidays. The summer school is open to any young musician from London, Hertfordshire or beyond, you don’t have to be a Habs student to apply! There is no minimum ability requirement and students do not need prior experience playing jazz or improvising, we are looking for enthusiasm and potential!
Both courses are five days long and non-residential. Each student receives individual instrumental tuition and is placed in an ensemble which will rehearse together throughout the week, giving a performance on the final evening which will be open to parents and the public.
The senior course will have the incredible opportunity to perform at one of the UK's leading jazz venues, the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho. During the courses there will also be classes on musicianship, repertoire and composition, as well as jam-sessions and a tutor concert. These courses are a unique opportunity to study and explore jazz music in new depth, meet like-minded players and develop as a musician.

Music is an integral part of school life at Habs (Sunday Times Independent School of the Year 2016), with over 600 students involved in music-making across a diverse range of genres. At the heart of this there is a thriving community of young jazz musicians, ensembles and teachers that together form jazz at Habs.
At Habs our jazz groups are among the best school ensembles in the country and many of our students have moved on to study jazz at conservatoire level. We have a monthly concert series dedicated to jazz and an award-winning big band who, as well as touring all over Europe, have performed at prestigious venues in the UK, including the Barbican in London.
The Habs Jazz Summer School junior course costs £350, the senior course costs £375. This includes all tuition, lunch for the week and a DVD of the final performance.
