Golf is offered as an option through the Games programme from year 11 upwards, although there are initiatives underway to get younger boys involved in the Sport at an earlier age. One of these is the establishment of lunchtime Golf coaching clinics open to all boys from both the Prep School and the Senior School which will hopefully serve as a way of encouraging boys to develop an interest in Golf.
Once identified as a keen golfer, boys are encouraged to join the Junior section of one of the many local clubs in the area. The annual School Golf day held each year just prior to the Autumn term was first contested in 1996, and has proven to be a good way to identify the top Habs golfers of the future.
The school first entered the HMC Foursomes competition in 2004-05 and won through to the National finals at the first attempt. Subsequently, we now participate in the ISGA Matchplay tournament as well, and reached the National finals in 2011, 2012 and 2013, when the team of Amar Vaghela, William Aldred and Aidan Kovenklioglu won the National team title at Princes Golf club and Royal St Georges Golf club in Kent.
The School's elite players have earned recognition through selection at both County and National level. In 2014 William Aldred went on to win the Herts Schools' County Championship with a round of 60 at Mid-Herts Golf Club.
In 2007 an annual Golf tour was established during February half-term where boys of all standards up to 36 handicap are able to enjoy a few days away in Portugal or Spain testing their skills on some excellent courses in a convivial atmosphere with Staff and fellow students of all ages.
We also Seniortain close links with the Old Haberdashers' Golfing society with whom we play an annual fixture in the summer term. In recent years many low handicap players have gone on to represent Old Haberdashers in the Grafton Morrish competition.
