Haberdashers Askes Boys School

"[I remember] the sheer intellectual stimulation provided by the school."

Lawrence Goldman, Editor of the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

11+ Entrance exam day - Friday 4th January 2008

Arrival - 9.15 - 9.40 am

Candidates should be here by 9.40 am but should NOT arrive before 9.15 am.

Due to the heavy volume of traffic using Aldenham Road, and the large numbers of candidates, we have been asked by the Police that parents adhere strictly to the following directions:

  • You should approach the school from the Radlett end of Butterfly Lane so that you can turn left into the school grounds at the Butterfly Lane entrance. (There will be no right turn into the school here from Butterfly Lane).
  • Follow the one-way system as directed by stewards.
  • Keep your son in the car until he is asked to get out by the staff/prefects at the reception point. Please DO NOT get out of your car.
  • Drive on as soon as your son has left the car. You will be directed to exit through the Girls' School grounds. On leaving the grounds TURN LEFT regardless of final destination.

Click here for a separate page involving detailed maps of routes of surrounding roads and through the school site.

We are sorry that you will not be able to accompany your son into school, but these arrangements enable us to manage the large numbers safely and efficiently. We will take very good care of him!

What To Bring

Your son should wear warm, comfortable, casual clothes.

He must wear the colour-coded lapel badge, sent out with the information pack, which indicates his examination number.

He should bring a pen (ball points are fine), pencil, sharpener, ruler and eraser. Calculators are NOT allowed.

Light refreshments will be provided during the mid-morning break and there is a vegetarian lunch of pizza and fruit. If you have any concerns over food and drink, your son may bring a packed lunch.

Boys may bring a small bottle of still water.

Collection (2.15 - 2.30 pm)

Please return to the school to collect your son between 2.15 and 2.30 pm. Parents are requested to drive into the grounds by the Main (West) Gate in Aldenham Road. Park and walk to the Bourne Building, where you will be able to collect your son from the area corresponding to your son's colour-coded badge:

Yellow Room B08
White Bourne Hall
Green Room B07
Red Room B06
Blue Bourne Hall

Your son will be brought to these areas at the end of the examination. Congestion in the school grounds is sometimes unavoidable at this time and we apologise in advance and ask for your patience and understanding.
