The Economics and Politics Departments

These Social Sciences are taken in the Sixth Form as two separate Advanced Level subjects.  For AS Economics, all boys study Markets in Action and the National and International Economy.  For A2, they study the Economics of Work and Leisure and the Global Economy.  In Politics, boys study the modern British political system for AS and the modern American political system for A2 and compare and contrast the two. The Economics and Politics courses are very popular and there are several sets in each year.  Advanced Level results are excellent.

The syllabus and teaching cater for those who intend to read Economics, Politics and related subjects such as Finance, Management and Business at university.  They also cater for those whose main interest in subjects such as English, History, Geography, and for those who specialise in Science and Mathematics.

The Department makes special provision for boys preparing for admission to Oxford and Cambridge.  They boys themselves organise a successful Politics society and a flourishing Economics Society.

The Department encourages Young Enterprise groups and has had great success in competitions organised by the Bank of England and European Youth Parliament.

Students are encouraged to study independently and are introduced to methods of individual study and research that will be vital to their progress and success at university.  To facilitate that, the Department has built up a large stock of Economics and Politics books in the Main School Library.  In addition, our dedicated teaching rooms are fully equipped with ICT resources and teachers make regular use of the shared ICT facilities of the main school.
