Wind Band concert 2010

The Wind Bands’ Concert was a fantastic way to lead into the half term break in style.

The concert was off to a flying start with the Jazz Band’s punchy performance of Tequila, followed by the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy performed elegantly by the Flute Quartet. The lively feel continued through Incendium’s Thriller anda stylish trombone duet. If You Were the Only Girl in the World showed off the versatility of the departments’ French Horn players before the Flute Ensemble’s waltz medley had the audience swaying in their seats. The first half was rounded off by the ever talented Big Band’s varied programme of Nightowl Suite, Mouse in the Dairy and Hunting Wabbits.

Wind Sinfonia kicked off the second half with a Michael Jackson medley, conducted with vigour and bounce by Miss Cousens. The Bassoon Duet provided contrast before the FT Band took to the stage with their arrangements of the Wallace and Gromit and James Bond themes. The audience’s toes were tapping at the Saxophone Quartet’s Pink Panther before the Brass Ensemble’s took on Intrada from Norton’s Jazz Quartet. The Jazz Flute Ensemble followed this with a beautifully lyrical performance, ably assisted by Miss Core. The evening closed as the Concert Band’s rousing performance of the Superman March left spirits high.

The evening also saw the awarding of the Brass and Woodwind prizes; The Wesley Woodage Brass Prize was presented jointly to Andrew Campbell and Brett Bernstein, while the Woodwind Prize went to School Captain, Aaron Taylor.
