PE curriculum Games Fixtures Tours Staff

Physical Education

All boys in years 7 & 8 receive two period of physical activity per week. In years 9, 10 & 11 the subject is allocated one period per week.

 

The Physical Education Curriculum, with the support of the Games Programme and the Extra-Curricular Activities, aims:

  1. To provide an environment where every pupil can be physically active.
  2. To develop the physical skills of every pupil to their full potential in a variety of different activities.
  3. To provide a medium for enjoyment from physical activity.
  4. To develop a disciplined and organised approach to learning physical skills.
  5. To develop a knowledge and understanding of Physical Education, and the benefits of regular exercise to a healthy lifestyle.
  6. To enable pupils to understand and use safe practice in physical education.
  7. To employ teaching methods and resources that allow all pupils (irrespective of their ethnic origin, academic ability etc) to have equal access and opportunities in PE.
  8. To develop pupil awareness of developments in PE and opportunities in sport generally.
  9. To enhance pupil’s personal and social awareness and habits through co-operation with others and to develop self-esteem.
  10. To develop a life long habit of regular exercise and sporting participation.

Habs experience an extensive list of midweek and weekend fixtures. All boys are expected to commit themselves to the sessions at lunch, after school as well as fixtures at the weekends. Only those who have exceptional circumstances (authorised by the Director of Sport) are granted exeats.

PE and Games Staff

The Games Department comprises nearly 50 members of staff who coach and supervise a range of sporting activities throughout the week. Many of the staff involved also run extra-curricular sessions as well as running teams for school fixtures at the weekends.
