Physics is taught as a separate subject from the first form, for two periods a week, increasing to four periods a week by the fifth form. In the the third, fourth and fifth forms, boys are arranged in sets based on earlier performance in science. The course is centred on practical work performed by the pupils. Pupils follow the National Curriculum and will take IGCSEs, validated by Edexcel.

In the sixth form sets are small and sets are based not only on ability but also on subject selections. The A-Level course is designed to widen and deepen the understanding of physics and to develop an appreciation of science.
There is also an annual Physics dinner enjoyed by all those connected with the department.
