Wings of Hope Achievement award 2009

Six students from the Lower 6th at Habs have scooped the top award in this year’s national Wings of Hope competition. They are Sahil Shah, Sachin Kotecha, Shiv Pabari, Hamza Zahid, Branavan Rudran and Matthew Naughton. Early in the autumn term of each year Wings of Hope sets the challenge for students to come up with innovative ideas to raise money to support the education of children in India. Several teams entered from the school.

The winning team (out of over 200 nationally), “Ribbon In The Sky”, used a variety of initiatives including Sleeping Rough in Northwood during the winter holidays, raising awareness through free hugs & a charity dinner. For the charity dinner the team was most generously sponsored and supported by Amouage, the luxury perfumes company based in Oman and affiliated to the Omani Royal Family. The team records its deep appreciation to the Chief Executive, David Crickmore. Furthermore, the team would also like to thank the Thames Valley Council for their support with the sleeping rough initiative.

All the team has to do now is to wait to take up their prize – an all expenses paid (and sponsored) trip to India to see how the funds raised are used in the education of young children in India.

More details about the competition can be viewed by visiting the Wings of Hope website.
