The Royal Navy Section enjoyed another fabulous Field Day at Aldenham Sailing Club. Barry Steele, Commodore of Aldenham Sailing Club (and past World "Cadet" Racing Champion) took the Yr 10 and L6th on the water teaching them starts, stalling, tacking, gybing and the race procedure.
The cadets and staff then had race after race until late into the afternoon. A sumptuous barbecue lunch was provided by Mr Holmes; Mr Hall ran the rescue boat and had few blasts in one of our Lasers; Chief Smith drove all the way from Portsmouth to attend and was top Topper racer by the end of the day.....and Mr Hardman tried to get to grips with Barry’s RS 300…..with some glimmers of success!
The cadets were top notch and got stuck into the activity from the very beginning – their sailing has improved no end. Sincere thanks to Mssrs Steele, Hall, Holmes and Smith for their excellent company.
We await the return of Mr Cucknell and Miss McKenzie on Sunday 4 July, who are bringing a dozen Yr 10 boys back from a 3 day sailing course at the ICC in Salcombe, Devon, having had an extended Field weekend.
