A team of twelve boys from Years 12 and 13 have been selected from amongst hundreds of entries to go through to the final of the UK Space Design Competition. The event, on the 24th & 25th of March at Imperial College, will see the boys have to work with teams from other schools to form a company and present a proposal to design and build a space vehicle in a "true to life industry simulation". Judges this year include representatives from NASA, The Boeing Corporation, the UK Space Agency, Imperial College and Sir Patrick Moore. The winning team from the finals weekend will go through to the World Finals held at NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.
Credit is due to Guy Lewy (L6th, Meadows) for organising the team. You can watch Guy, and other team members, present the design for a Lunar Habitat Module that won them their place in the final on YouTube. The presentation and those of the other finalists can also be viewed on the UKSDC website.
After coming runners up last year, perhaps this year will see the boys blast off to even greater things?
It should be noted that Habs Girls have also made it through to the final. They almost certainly will not be in the same team as us due to the way schools are seeded.
