Year 2 Kingfishers visit Celtic Harmony Camp

Trip Account by Samuel 2HP

Today I went to the Celtic Harmony Camp. When the coach arrived there I took my first step out of the coach and did at least twenty more steps then I saw a Celtic Warrior! We took a long walk before we got there, we had to go through big wooden gates and the warrior said we were going back in time.  First we went to the large round house, then we went to a herb garden and looked at all the herbs, I was astonished about the amount of things they did with them.  One or two seconds later we went to collect dock leaves to make a dock leaf soup, then we had to mash our dock leaves with sticks by hitting them in a woven bowl.  It was a very unusual experience because I thought hitting them with sticks would never work, but somehow it did!!! After that we did wheat grinding, which was interesting to see the grain turn into flour.    We did lots of other things and I went to the shop and bought my own crystal kit and gemstone.   We then saw someone shoot a real bow and arrow.  The whole trip was awesome!

Trip account by Raman 2AF

Haberdashers Year 2 visited the Celtic Harmony Camp on Wednesday. It was an exciting an education trip to an Iron Age settlement.  When we arrived, we were met by a Celtic warrior called Awayne and a lady called Morgana.  They were clad in a woven tartan plaid.  Shortly afterwards they took us to a pretend time machine where we had to shout out our names before we stepped in.  I was astonished to see the woods and a beautiful herb garden inside.  As we were walking past the Celtic round houses the leader of the Celtic tribe and his wife invited us inside.  They painted faces with woad which represented different Gods.  I had a tattoo of the God of Lightning.  After this, we helped to make bread by grinding the grains into flour.

Morgana led us into a round house where she told us two fascinating tales about an owl and a fearsome warrior.  Next, we explored the herb garden and collected some leaves and herbs for soup. For lunch we sat outdoors and enjoyed our sandwiches.  We visited the Celtic Souvenir Shop where we traded our English money for Celtic coins.  The shop had some unusual and awesome things.  I had sufficient Celtic money to buy a gemstone, a wand and a bracelet.

After trading we played a trading game using fluff, pottery, wood and grains.

The last activity of the day was hunting.  It was a challenging task of collecting as many painted mushrooms as possible in the woods.  The second task was hunting wild boars using a stick.

This trip has been a truly amazing and fascinating experience. I would like to visit this place again.
