Tennis is an increasingly popular sport at Habs and the school has 15 astroturf courts in constant use throughout the summer term. The school enters numerous competitions at various ability levels and age groups. The current senior team recently progressed into the knockout stages of the Aegon Senior Students competition, whilst in the under 13 and under 15 age groups, success at county level has also been very encouraging. The school’s strength in depth is also demonstrated by the excellent performances in the Watford and District competition, winning the Nicola Mabbitt trophy at two age groups last year. In 2013, our senior pair won the Herts County Doubles Championships and both the under 12 and under 14 pair emulated this success in the school’s most successful season for many years.
Squad training sessions are during lunchtimes and the school has regular fixtures after school and on Saturday mornings. We also run a highly competitive and successful inter-house tennis competition through the summer term and over a hundred boys take part in three different age groups.
For our strongest players, the finale of the tennis season is the ISTA tournament at Eton College. After a number of lean years, there have been several successes in recent seasons. At under 15 level, Habs won the Phillips Cup for the first time in 2010 and are the current under 13 Plate holders, retaining the title we won in 2011.
