It is traditionally the case at Haberdashers’ that every Sixth Former secures a university offer.
Students are showing a growing interest in the US universities and in the past few years we have sent to Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, Columbia, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Rhode Island School of Design and the University of North Carolina.
Advice and guidance concerning the transition from Haberdashers’ to higher education starts in Year 9 when our students make their option choices for GCSE/IGCSE. This continues into Year 10 as students are encouraged to take the Morrisby Profile and receive specialist guidance regarding which A Level subject combinations to offer at application to university. Students interested in applying to US universities are encouraged to begin their research in the Middle School.
Preparation for university application begins in September for Lower Sixth students and their parents with addresses covering preparation for application to competitive courses at competitive universities. Students are allocated a subject adviser who directs their university application.
When the students return to school following the AS examinations we run the “UCAS Conference” with personal statement and interview skills workshops, presentation skills workshops and the first mock university interview.
A June Higher Education evening allows students and their parents to engage with university admissions tutors. Following the submission of their application in the Autumn term the students take advantage of an extensive admissions test preparation and mock interview programme.
