Just before the Easter break, Year 2 headed to the Prep School for our Learning Outside the classroom day that was a joint experience with the Girls’ School. The sun was shining and the children had the most wonderful time. The children from both schools were split into four groups, which meant that they could experience four sessions throughout the day.
In activity 1, the children were told a story by a professional storyteller in our Outdoor Classroom. They acted out the story using props that they made themselves from natural materials they had found in the Woodlands.
In activity 2, the children learnt to tie knots and to make dens using ropes and tarpaulins.
Activity 3 was an obstacle course, encouraging team work and a clear race against the clock. In this session the children also toasted marshmallows over a fire and made Smores to eat.
Activity 4 was run by a professional adventure seeker! He taught our children how to safely light their own fire using cotton wool, sticks and a metal flint. Every child succeeded in starting their own fire which they then toasted chocolate brioche over to eat!
It was an amazing day and we hope that the children enjoyed it as much as the staff did!
