Music in the Rain

On Tuesday 3 July, we held our end of year prize-giving assemblies. Instead of having it as one whole Prep Assembly, we organised one for each year group, outside, physically distant, with a separate gazebo per house bubble.

During a beautiful Year 4 duet, the wind started rising and a few drops of rain fell. I couldn’t help stepping out of the moment, for just a second, to think of how testing these last few months have been and how remarkable our community has been.

The boys quickly learnt and adapted to a new way of working; they dealt with setbacks by focusing on the good around them and managed to maintain an extraordinary optimism; they remained curious, engaged and collaborated and connected with each other, allowing the community to continue to thrive.

As parents and teachers, we set the tone. We ourselves had to be agile and creative, learn fast, adapt, stay optimistic, communicate openly and frequently, with the boys’ wellbeing at the centre of everything we did.

In times of challenge, such attitudes, behaviours and character strengths shine even brighter. These have been testing months but our community’s response has been something to be proud of and it has gifted us with some beautiful moments. Like two pupils playing music in the rain.

Have a wonderful summer.
