Return to School

In the last two weeks, we have been delighted to welcome back to school our Year 1 and Year 6 boys. We have seen them thrive. For this reason, as soon as the Government permitted to bring back more pupils whilst maintaining physical distance, we decided to do so. Therefore, from Monday 22 June, in a gradual, phased and safe way, we will start welcoming back to our campus all our Prep boys. For this reason, we thought we would share the impressions of some of our Year 6 boys in this blog post.

“The day my parents told me I was able to go back to school I felt a mixture of emotions. I was brimming with excitement at the thought of seeing my friends again. Even driving towards the Prep School gave me such fantastic and nostalgic memories of Haberdashers’ and I couldn’t wait to get back and regain some sort of normality, something that we have all been craving.

The changes made were really clear and helped us feel so safe. We were separated into bubbles of around ten to twelve boys (though we could speak to others from a longer distance), and we had to practise physical distancing and wash our hands regularly. The timetable has changed from before and we have the same subjects every day, just in a different order. Even with these changes, I can definitely say that these few weeks of school have been some of the most splendid weeks I have experienced and have really made me appreciate just how fun school is. The time away from school, in lockdown, has really amplified the most exciting and enjoyable parts, because we took for granted the things that mattered most in school, such as friends, social interaction, and even the lessons! I have enjoyed being in my house classes as I have learnt with boys I have never worked with before. It feels so much more united.

Outside activities at school have increased quite a lot and we have almost two hours of break every day, and one hour of physical exercise. The teachers are working their best to add some excitement and they are doing a marvellous job. Our break areas are adjacent to each other and in a line on the field and the teachers moved things around so we could be in a square and could speak to everyone. In PE, my teacher organised so many fun activities that we could play safely, such as football-golf, tennis, athletics, a cricket net session for boys who were interested and many more. Little things like this have made such a difference.

Since coming back to school, we have already taken part in a two-week inter-house competition and PSHCEE lessons. We have also done some brilliant project work and learnt all about Greek myths! Even my mum is now more relaxed about me going to school!”
