The Art department was delighted to offer Year 7 and Year 8 the chance to take part in an urban sketching mastery class with Jeanette Barnes and our Art A Level students the chance to take part in a portraiture workshop with Paul Barnes.
Jeanette Barnes and Paul Brandford, from We Explore Drawing, are multi-award-winning artists.
They have over 25 years of teaching experience devising and leading workshops and courses for a range of institutions including the Royal Academy of Arts, the Royal Drawing School, Somerset House, NSEAD, and The Big Draw amongst others.
In the Year 7 and Year 8 workshops, Jeanette helped the pupils to explore the world of urban sketching looking at a range of artist’s examples and drawing upon her own experiences of sketching cities worldwide. Her relaxed and informative exercises encouraged a confident approach to creating drawings full of atmosphere and life.
In the A Level workshop with Paul, the pupils explored ideas that can bring portrait drawing to life. Paul led the boys through a series of fast paced exercises developing inventive approaches to portraiture. Combining observation, imagination and mark making this compact workshop strengthened and extended the boys’ life drawing skills.
Well done to everyone who took part!
