Holdroye Howe present Healthy Eating Week assembly

Live Well Week has focused on Healthy Eating and Nutrition as we gear up for better sustainability and exciting menu additions in The Bates.

All week, the breakfast bar has offered delicious guacamole on toast or 'huevos rancheros' (Mexican-style eggs and avocado on chopped tomatoes salsa and tortilla!), alongside our usual choice of pastries, cereals or traditional servings.

Nourishing new tastes and chef specials have tempted the pupils during lunch service and we have seen a wave of appreciation from the pupils as they try out sensational challenges.

On Wednesday we were treated to a Chefs' Assembly in The Bourne Hall. This was aimed at Sixth Formers, heading towards university and the need to become adept at cooking for themselves. The team at Holroyd Howe spoke about the joy and fun of cooking and how to start with base sauces and ingredients.

A super presentation was brought to life by the offer of sampling vegetarian and meat-based chilli and tomato sauces , which was enjoyed by hungry Sixth Formers even though it was just after breakfast!

All pupils have received the excellent 'Student Kitchen' recipe booklet to encourage further cooking and enjoyment.
