Congratulations to Avy (7M) who recently participated in the European and World Junior Chess tournament!
These were Avy's first international tournaments due to the pandemic, seeing him play in three tournaments over the course of two weeks.
First was the World Junior Rapid tournament. Avy played in the U14 section and finished with 6/9 points, the best English player in the tournament section. On points he was placed 3rd, but as there was a four-way tie for 3rd, Avy was placed 7th based on tie break points. This was a fantastic achievement.
Next came the World Junior Blitz tournament. Avy once again played in the U14 section and finished with 5.5/9 points despite it not being his preferred format. Overall, he came 18th and tied on points for the best English player.
Finally, it was the European Junior tournament. Avy played in the U13 section and finished with 5/9 points. He showed fantastic courage and ambition during this challenging tournament and finished 9th overall, again tied for best English player.
