Pre-Prep Curriculum Overview
Your son’s academic journey begins in Year 1 at the Pre-Prep School (5-7 year olds) at the Park Street site where we nurture potential and allow enquiring minds to flourish.
Our Pre-Prep is full of happy, inquisitive boys who are curious about life and have a real hunger for learning. We pride ourselves on providing strong foundations on which all future learning is built.
In Years 1 and 2, English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, ICT and Art are all taught by the pupil’s form teacher. The boys receive specialist teaching in Drama, Games, PE, Religious Studies and Music.
Our teaching combines the best elements of The National Curriculum with the extension tasks and enhancements which are a necessity for the able boys we teach. In Maths this will involve practical work, as well as the more formal lessons in Arithmetic and problem solving.
Within the English curriculum there are form teacher led lessons on Grammar and Comprehension as well as an emphasis on oral work within both year groups.
Reading is taught using a combination of reading schemes and parents are encouraged to hear their son read at home at frequent intervals and to comment in their record books.
Working closely with the Prep school staff, we ensure that there is a seamless transition for the boys as they move into the Prep school at the beginning of Year 3.
Each and every child is different and we pride ourselves on the individual attention we can give our pupils. We encourage the boys to be confident and also to embrace their individuality as they progress through the School.
