Pastoral

When pupils join Habs, they are placed into one of four Houses – Andrew, Davids, Georges or Patricks, all named after the Patron Saints of Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland.

Each House has two Year 6 Captains who are chosen by the staff, selected for their responsibility and their willingness to take initiative during House events. All Houses also have two members of staff who will organise and hold House meetings and assemblies.

Each year, on the important dates of the four Patron Saints, pupils often participate in festivities to celebrate – such as non-uniform dates, confectionery from the tuck shop and so on. These occasions are also a fantastic time our community to come together for charity fundraising!

Throughout the year, pupils are awarded House points for good work and/or effort inside and outside the classroom, plus there are Inter House activities and competitions in Art, Drama, Creative Writing and different sports. These points will contribute to the House Trophy which is awarded each term.

Our Medical Centre, based in the Senior School, is open every day during term time from 8am until 5.30pm and is available to all pupils, staff and visitors. We have two qualified nurses who run the Medical Centre but we have over 100 staff members who are also trained in first aid. First aid cover is also provided on a Saturday for home sporting fixtures, either by a school nurse or first aider.

Our nurses assist and monitor any pupils who have chronic conditions as well as organising health checks and immunisations where appropriate. They work closely with other external professionals to ensure that our pupils are able to participate fully in all areas of school life.

As an integral part of our pastoral service, we offer a counselling service to our pupils where they are free to talk about any concerns or troubles, regardless of whether they are inside or outside school.

Pupils can make an appointment via email to the counsellor or through their Head of House, School Nurse, a teacher or their parents. Where appropriate, the counsellor will work closely with the extended pastoral team and with parents to support the wellbeing of all pupils at the school.
